LEESTON.

At a meeting of the executive of the Leeston Beautifying Association it was decided that, subject to the approval of the Ellesmere Road Board, the ceremony of turning the first sod of tho proposed grounds on Market square should take placo on Wednesday, April 6th.

At a meeting of Sunday school teachers of St. John's Presbyterian Church on Monday evening, it was arranged to hold a social meeting some time in April in connection with the annual prize distribution.

Some time ago, Mr A. Mageldo, of the Fisherman's Point, Lake Ellesmere, hauled in two peculiar-looking specimens of fish in" his nets, which ho sent to the Christchurch Museum. He has since received a communication from the Curator, stating that the specimens are commonly known as sea slugs, being, in fact, shell fish in which the shell is very small and hidden beneath the flesh. They are allied to the sea hares, which, in a greater degree, have tho faculty of clouding tho water from an ink bag, thus confusing an enemy. The technical name is PSeurabranchus auratiacus.
