TATTERSALL'S AND STREET OBSTRUCTION.

TO THK EDITOR OF "THE PBESS."

Sir, —With regard to above, and in reply to "Forward's" letter in your issue of to-day, wherein he describes Tattersall'6 as an evil-smelling nuisance, I consider a remark of this kind, coming more especially from one who claims to be an old resident, unjust. Tattorsall's is a well-kept horse repository, and is just as free from smells as it is possible to be. Speaking from a hygienic point of view, I believe Tattersail's could more than hold its own with a number of places in town where food is sold. Anent the congregation of farmers in front of Tattersall's, this is an old weekly custom, and one that should be encouraged, not discouraged, and I am sure it would bo a mistako to interfere in any way just now to retard trade. Ido not think "Forward's" proposal to move the Saturday horse sale to Addington would meet with the retail shopkeepers' hearty approval, n& they look to people comin.s; into the city on Saturdays as a considerable source of profit. I think the foregoing will give "Forward" r.n idea why drapers, butchers, fishmongers, and other traders do not care To make unnecessary complaints.—Yours, etc., W. EMERSON RAMSAY. 14th March.
