CITY'S TERRIBLE PLIGHT.
FLOOD WORSE THAN EVER.
United' Press Association—By Electxio Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, January 28. The Senate has adopted a measuro for extending tho date tor the payment of Kills falling due. In tho flooded districts it is estimated that 100,000 raon are idle. The St. Lazare railway station has been closed.
Tho Seine to-day over How e<l the parapets of the Quai de la Conference, and tho water is invading the Champs Elysees and t'he esplanade of the Hotel dcs Invalides. Tho cold is very severe, and many of the sewers are bursting in consequence The twelfth arrondissement is entirely inundated, partly from the sewers. •Military posts have been established behind tho barriers, to ensure order. The misery and desolation in the outlying quarters are pitiful. President Taft has cabled expressing his sympathy, and offering Red Cross aid. LONDON, January 28. A Mansion House fund has been opened in London for the relief of the sufferers.
