' (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Six first offenders were ea«h fined 5s and costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Annie Fraser, a second offender for drunkenness, was fined 103 and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Alfred Dory Ogier, a third offender, for drunkenness, was convicted and discharged, as he had been in gaol since Saturday. Sub-In3pector SlcGrath stated that accused had gone home drunk on Friday night, and later liu> house was found to lie on fire, and it was completely destroyed before the nre was suppressed. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Geo. Prcndergasi was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, with hard labour, for using obscene language. He had been previously convicted of drunkenness and procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and the language was used in the presence of women. John Anderson pleaded "Guilty" to committing a similar offence in March last. He had been away from Christchurch since then and liad only just returned. The Magistrate, as the accused had not previously been before the Court, let him off with a fine of 40s and costs. VAGRANCY. Harold Williams appeared for sentence on a charge of being a rogue and vagabond in that he did impose upon Silas Knight by false representation with a view to obtain board and lodgings. It appears that accused was convicted in August last and ordered to come up for sentence on this charge, but sentence was deferred, provided ho remained in the Salvation Army Home for six months. He left the Home on New Year's Eve, got on the spree, and returned later. The Magistrate said accused had had his chance and had not taken advantage of it.. He would bo sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour.
