THE TROUBLE AT THE STATE COAL MINE.
TO-DAY'S CONFERENCE.
(■MCUI TO "THE TBMI.")--'..;-GREYMOUTH, January 2. Much-uneasiness is being-felt as to the* outcome of to-morrow's conference between the Minister of Mines and tho representatives of the State miners at Point Elisabeth. The position is that the Miners-Union decided not to resume work till the demand that the State should undertake all trucking and jigging was fully granted. This will be made the besia of the men's demands, and it is hardly likely that jt will be altered' in the slightest. Unless there is a complete ''backdown" on the pari of the State, tha Minister will require to exercise the utmost teot in order to bnng about a resumption of operations on. any other terms. The Minister, v confident of being *ble to effect an amicable settlement.
