(press association telegrams.) AUCKLAND, December 20. A young man named Vincent Alaloney, aged 18, was drowned at the Karaka beach, near Pukekohe, yesterday. A party of young men went to the beach for fishing, and Maloney and John Best went in to bathe. Maloney got into the channel, which is narrow but eight feet deep, and being a poor swimmer he was soon in difficulties. Best went to his assistance, but was pulled under, having great difficulty in caving himself. Moloney's bcdy was found an hour later. He -was the son of a widow living at Puni. GISBORNE, December 20. Barry Worth, an elderly married man, nightwatchman of Evans, Niell and Co.'c timber yards, was found in an unconscious state in the yards on Thursday morning. He did not recover consciousness and died this morning. Death was the result of a paralytic stroke. PALMERSTON N., December 20. Sebastian Ott, aged £0 years, was drowned while bathing in the Mana■watu river at Foxton to-day. nis mother resides in Wellington. WELLINGTON, December 20. Kobert Henry Parker, an elderly man, was knocked down by a tram car in Manners street aoout 10.30 on csaturday night. Hβ was removed to the hospital in an unconscious condition, the base of his skull being fractured.
