SHIPPING NOTES.

After a round trip occupying nearly seventeen days, the Ripple returned yesterday afternoon from the Chatham Islands. The vessel left Lyttelton on the Ist inst., end throughout the whole trip was delayed by heavy easterly geles and seas and thick weather and rain. Sixteen passengers arrived by the uteamer, which also brought 760 bales of wool, 100 sheep, and a quantity of produce.

The Kairaki sailed yesterday afternoon with c»Tgo for Westport, Greymouth. and Hokitika. The vessel is calling at Wellington on her way round to load a quantity of hardwood for Westport. She is to load timber at Greymouth for Lyttelton. Tho new steamer Monica, which has been specially built for Messrs Hempstalk and Company, for the Lyttelton-Banks Peninsula" trade, is expected ■to leave Auckland to-day on her maiden trip to Lyttelton, and is due here about Wednesday next.

Tho Putiki arrived early yesterday morning with a cargo of timber from Greymoufh. Tho vessel will Monday, taking cargo for Wellington, Wanganui, and Pa tea. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongariro will arrive here this morning from London, via way ports and Wellington, to discharge the balance of her cargo. Her loading programme has already been published.

It has been decided that the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's chartered steamer Waitemata will call at Nelson to load a quantity of wool for London, and will leave Wellington to-day for that port. The Maoriland Company's steamer Lauderdale is to leave Port Huon to-day with a cargo of hardwood for Dunedin. Lyttelton, and Napier.

The Arapawa is duo here this morning from Puponga. in ballast. The vessel went to Puponga to load coal for Lyttelton, but owing to the poor tides was unablo to get her cargo. The Arapawa will leave Lyttelton to-night for Wellington, Wanganui, and Pate*.

The Ripple will sail this afternoon for Port Chalmers, where she will be decked for an overhaul and survey. The storm is due at Lyttelton to-day from Wanganui. via Kaikoura ar.d Waipapa Point, and will leave in the afternoon for Dunedin. She will return next week, via Timaru, and will go on io Wanganui.
