CASUALTIES.

Mrs Annie Sparkhill, wife of a grain merchant at Southbriiige, met with a nasty accident last night between ten and eleven o'clock. It appears that she desired to alight at Blyt-he's road, but as tbe tram did not stop, she jumped off. Mrs _>parkbill was picked up unconscious, and was ta_en to the Hospital, where she recovered consciousness.

An accident ocourred at Lyttelton yesterday to a man named Frederick Hamson, who was working in a railway truck alongside tbe steamer Clan Ogilvy, which -was discharging jarrah timber. A long baulk of timber which was beine: landed into tbe truck knocked Hamson out of the truck, and he fell on the -wharf, sustaining a cut on 'the side of his face and a bruise on his arm. He was taken to the Casualty Ward, where his injuries were attended to, and he was removed to his home last evening.

HAWERA, December 10.

A sad drowning fatality occurred yesterday in the Kapuni river. Several employees of the Kaupokonui Dairy Factory were bathing, when R. Burn was seen to sink. Two brothers named named Swale went to Burn's assistance, and both were dragged under by the drowning man. Tom Swale released himself and reached the bank in an exhausted condition. Charles Swale was unable to free himself, and he and Burn were drowned. Deceased were about 19 years of age.

WANGANUI, December 10. Edward Hackett, an old resident of Wanganui, and at one time a wellknown oarsman, was found drowned in the rived at midnight on Thursday. DUNEDIN. December 10. Tho body of Samuel McDonald Alexander, aged 58, was found floating in the harbour under the Rattray street wharf early this morning. Deceased, who had lived at Opoho, possessed considerable means. He left his home yesterday morning with the object of purchasing a new home.
