OPENING OF THE SEASON

There was a largo attendance of players and spectators on the polo grounds. Hagley Park, on Saturday afternoon, when the Ghristchurch Polo Club opened their season. The ground was in good order, and, considering the early .<tage of the season, the game was fairly fast and some good play was witnessed. The club were fortunate in having present two members of .the Hawarden Club (Messrs Leslie and Cuthbert Rutherford), who very appreciably assisted' in making the game an interesting one. Between twelve and fourteen players took part and the sides were pretty equally matched, the game finishing with honours fairly equal. Afternoon tea was partaken of, a large number of the lady friends of members assisting in dispensing: it.
