SECOND MINERS' MINE.

PROGRESS OF NEGOTIATIONS

(Received December 3rd, 1.10 .a.m.) Tho Young Wallsend mine started working to-day. Mr Learmonth saw Mr Wade this morning, and subsequently a meeting was held at Mr Wade's residence to discuss the strike position, but nothing has been divulged as to tho progress of the negotiations for bringing tho parties together, or the Government's intentions in the event of failure. It is believed the probability of the parties coming together is not piomising. The Strike Conference considered the request of the P. and O. Company for the Coal Lumpers' Union to discharge 6000 tons of Japanese coal which arrived to-day by tho steamer Palerma, and intended for the Company's mail liners. Late to-night it was announced that the coal lumpers would work the coal.
