SHIPPING NOTES.
The Kini, which has b««n undergoing an overhaul, will come out of dock early this morning, and her place on the blocks will be taken by the Bjackball Coal Company's steamer Ngahere, which is undergoing her first annual survey and overhaul. The Ripple ia due here to-morrow from Thmedin, via Oam aru and Tim aru, and *fter loading cargo will sail for Keikoura, Napier and Gisßorne. The Arapawa is due here to-night from Wellington to load, in the regular fortnightly service, for Wellington, Wanganui, and Paten. The vessel will sail to-morrow afternoon. The FedeTal-Houlder-Shire etoemex Drayton Grange is to sail this evening for Dunedin to complete discharging. Captain 3. B. Alleop, of the Hippie, is on holiday leave, and Captain iJroadhouse ia in charge of the vessel for the time being. Captain Mocdonald, late chief officer of the turbine steamer Maori, has been appointed j to the command of the Union Company's training ship Dartford, in place of Captain Cooper, who has gone to Dunedin for orders. The ship, which ia to be docked shortly for, overhaul and surrey, will afterwards proceed to Newcastle, where,' it is reported, she will load a cargo of ooal for Honolulu. The Kini, which is coming out of dock this morning, will proceed direct to Westport to load for Wellington. The steel barquentine Alexa arrived off Lyttelton Heads in a strong nor'-wester yesterday afternoon, and was towed to an anchorage in the stream. Captain White, who is still in charge 01 the vessel, reports that the Alexa sailed from Port Step bens, N.S.W., on October 17th, and favoured by good winds, made a fast run across the Tasmin Sea, passing Farewell Spit five days out. Head winds then beset the vjseel, which was ten days making Lyttelton after passing the Spit, the whole passage thus occupying fifteen days. The Alexa has a cargo of hardwood, part for Lyttelton and part for Wanganui. - The schooner Annie Hill, which had been lying in the stream since Friday afternoon, got away with the first change of wrna yesterday evening, and wae soon running up tho coast before a freen southerly -breeze, bound to Greymouth.
