Mr Irvine, a director of the National Mutual Life, gave evidence that the Board of Directors neither knew of, nor sanctioned the publication of the articles in question by their agents, and had nothing to do with certain advertisements in the "Clarion." The directors fined one agent £100, and administered a severe rebuke in connection with the matter. MOTOR-CAR FATALITY. MELBOURNE, November 1. A motor-car collided with an electric light pole. The car turned a somersault and was smashed. Miss Burke, one of tho passengers, was killed, and several others were slightly injured. OPPORTUNE RAINS. (Received November 2nd, 1 a.m.).
