FIRES.
At Kowai bush on Monday evening, about 6 o'clock, the dwelling-house owned and occupied by Mr Michael Uowney was destroyed by fire. Mrs Downey had gone to a spring near by for water, and on her return found the kitchen a mass of flames. The building, which was very old, burned so rapidly that scarcely any of its contents could be saved. Neither house nor furniture was insured.
