(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
AUCKLAND, July 15. There is no change in the unemployed position to-day, though on the whole fewer men are calling at the local office. Up to last night 148 men had registered their names. Of these, 49 were married, with 155 dependents, and 99 were single. In about a fortnight's time the post office building works will be sufficiently advanced to afford employment to a considerable number of extra men. TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —I have just lately been living in North.New..- Brighton, close to the tramline, and-if there was on© thing which struck mc very forcibly, it is the way in which the roads in that part of Brighton are kept. The Council have just made a clearance of the tram .route . road, through absolute necessity, as it was practically impossible to walk, ride, or drive along the road except on the tramline itself. The suggestion which I have to make is that some of the unemployed should be given work in the way of forming roads which have been dedicated for that purpose and are at present sand hills. If this matter was taken in hand I am sure it would be to everybody's benefit. New Brighton being as grand a health resort as or c could find round Christchurch, somethng really ought to be done to make it convenient amd beneficial to everyone.—Yours, etc., NOTHING LIKE THE PBESENT.
