(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGnAM.)
AUCKLAND, July 14,
The announcement that Lord Kitchener is coming to Australia at the end of the year naturally created considerable interest in local military circles, and speculation was rife as to whether New Zealand would be included in his programme.
On Tuesday a deputation, of three volunteer, officers, representing their respective! arms of the Service, waited Officially on the Hon. George FowMs (Acting-Minister for Defence) and asked him to use his influence.with the Government to invite Lord Kitchener to New Zealand. The deputation received a sympathetic hearing, and it was .stated persistently in welt-informed oiroles to-day that an invitation would bo sent to the hero of Khartoum. when interviewed by a representative of the "Herald" this evening, said that nothing had been decided, but that a communication had been sent to the Hon. James Carroll (Acting-Prime Minister), and that Cabinet was now considering the matter.
