BOXING.
The first contest in New Zealand for the professional heavy-rweight championship will take place at -the Theatre the contestants being B. J. Picton and J. J. Makmey. Pictoh gained his experience in Melbourne, whore he contested several bouts, while Malohey has competed in Wellington and Dunedin, winning the amateur heavy-weight local championship at each place. Both, men are ia. splehded condition, and an excellent contest is expected. It is possible that the winner will be matched against J. M. Griffin, who will arrive ir* Christchurch On Thursday morning, and who will meet J. Smith (winner of the amateur middle-weight chamjMonshit. of New Zealand last year) iii Christcnurch on July Bth.
