MINISTERIAL VISIT TO QUAIL ISLAND.
HOW THE LEPER PATIENTS ARE
PROGRESSING
The Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Health, accompanied by Drs. Finch and Upham, visited Quail Island yesterday, in order to see what is being dor-.o for the leper patients there. At t>resent are two patients on the island—a European and a Maori. Thero were three, but recently ono was discharged. Tho two at present on tho island have had severe attacks of the disease, but are now very much recovered. The Euro£<ean's was a very severe ea.-=e, and tho Nastin treatment has been used, and, it is reported, with good results. The patient himxelf stated that, he had greatly benefited by the treatment. Tlie Minister found that tho patients were well accommodated in" small shelters in a well-shaded SiKit, and er.eh an apartment for himself. They oxpr'vr'xi thvmselves as well pleased with their treatment, and hopeful as to the future. Mr Buddo informed a representative of "The Press" that he was of opinion that the h"st possible was being done for these men, who deserved a great deal of £.*ul-!ic sympathy.
