SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
The following School Committees were elected on Monday night, in addition to those already pubiisned: — Cashmere.—l here was a fair attendance, and Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P., presided. The following were elected: — 3lessrs A. Currie (chairman), B. Seville, E. F. Owen, H. Thomas. JP". A. Pyne, and Mesdames Currte and Saville. On the motion of Mr T. E. Taylor, seconded by Mr S. is. Blackburnc, tho following motion was carried: —"That this meeting expresses its approval of the movement wiiich seeks to introduce a systematic dental and medical inspection of all children attending the State schools, and that- copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Minister of Education." West Oxford.—Mr James Brown, who retired after three years' work as chairman, and the master and teachers were accorded hearty votes of thanks. The following were elected: —Messrs George Winter (chairman), Alfred Jones (secretary), William Osborne,* Mesdames Lawson, Askew, Roisiter, and the Rev. Mr French. Hcmebush.—There was a fair attendance, Mr W. Broughton presiding. The annual balance-sheet, which showed a credit of £7 10s, was adopted 1 . The following were elected:—Messrs W. Hearty votes of thanks vera accorded the teachers and' the committpo. The following were re-elected: — Messrs R. Macartney (chairman), F. Meyer, T. Morgan, J. Michael, J. Heinzmann, C. M. Suckling, audl J. Watson. Darfield.—There was a fair attend- ,- ance, Mr Robert Reid presiding. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a credit balance of £17, against which there , are outstanding accounts amounting to £6, and £10 is earmarked l for technical "instruction. The annual report showed i that the attendance was being reduced, owing to removals/ -from the district, and owine to lack of support, the District High School -would be closed at the end of July. The resignation of the headmaster was accepted , with regret, he having been appointed headmaster at Taj" Tapu. The following were ,5 elected*:— Messrs J. Whall (chairman), B. Reid, F. C. Candy, H. Candy, J. Calder, H. Matthews, and: H. j< Thompson. Reddiffs.—Mesdames Senior and Jes. Maffey, Messrs Beaven (chairman), Andrews, Maffey, G. Hines, and: Peek. Hororata.—Messrs A. Gray (chairman), H. Parker, H. Oliver, F. Fuller, S. Buhner, and Harris. Hals well.—There were about 50 persons present, and Mr E. Paterson occupied! the chair. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The meeting passed a vote of condolence with Mr Amos Bird on the sad loss of his wife, all present standing. Votes of thanks were accorded the teachers, the Board of Education, and the outgoing committee. The following were elected:—Messrs E. Paterson (chairman). V. Deal, R, Gardiner, E. Duckworth, F. Witbroek, H. Cox, H. Hayes. Harewocd.—There was a good attendance, and , Mr A. Buddy was in the chair. The headmaster and teachers were congratulated on the year's work.' The balance-sheet was adopted. A resolution was passed l commenting on the apathy shown by the Education Board respecting the water-supply, which was i said to be in a most disgraceful state. Inspector's report on the school was considered very satisfactory, and a motion congratulating the teaching staff was carried unanimously. The results of tho technical work were stated to be encouraging. .The following were elected:—Messrs R. W. Lockhead (chairman), Jas. Doherty; W. J. Street, J: G. Scott, G. Rennie, G. Stcxtaart, and W. Bartram (hon. secretary). Burnham.—A fair number* were present. Mr C. Wolfe, chairman of outgoing committee, presided. The following were elected:—Messrs H. J. Tisch lA. E. Coomber, J. Stringfellow,- M. Mcj Xally, and C. Wolfe, (chairman, reelected).
