OBITUARY.
Mr Joseph Canning, who died somewhat suddenly at Ashburton on April 12th, was for a number of years in the railway service, and for a lengthy period was train examiner at Ashburtcn. He was an old Mason, and for several j'ears was treasurer of the Somerset Lodge, since amalgamated with the St. Johns, and now known a-, the Ashburton Lodge, 1811, E.C He was also an Oddfellow of many years' standing. After leaving the railway service, Mr Canning started as ?. town carrier, and followed that occupation up to the morning of his death. He had been a resident of Ashburton for over thirty years. He was oS years of age _:iti leaves a" widow and a grown up family.
