MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
rMr H. W. Bishop, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. Eva Neilson and Annie McOormack were each convicted and discharged for importuning. Philip Jones was charged with being drunk, smoking, and using obscene language on t_o Christchurch railway station. In connection with the first 'two named offences he was convicted and discharged, and for using obscene language was fined 40. and costs, in default one month's imprisonment. The Magistrate strongly deprecated the practice of smoking on the station. Henry Wong Gye (Mr Cassidy) pleaded guilty to a charge of defrauding Geo. Martin of the sum of £15 by means of a valueless cheque drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Dunedin. Accused, who had previous convictions recorded against him, was sent to gaol ,for twelve months. Three lads, who appeared on a charge of stealing fruit to the value of lOs, j the property of Geo. Helmore, were [ " convicted and discharged, after a severe admonition from the Bench. Their i parents were ordered to refund the 1 Talue of the fruit.
