A NARROW ESCAPE.
SPRINKLER AND CART IN COLLISION.
Shortly after two o'clock on Saturday afternoon, a rather serious collision between one of the Tramway Board's electric water sprinklers and a spring cart occurred at the intersection of Barba- •_<_<_. and Worcester streets. The spring cart belonged to H. Fairthorne, and was loaded with fruit and vegetables. It was going southwards when tile sprinkler ran into it. Eyewitnesses of the collision state that the driver of the spring cart slacked up as soon ns he saw the sprinkler, but the cart was then almost half-way over the line, and before the driver*of the sprinkler could stop tho sprinkler had crashed into tho cart, striking on one of the wheels, overturning the cart and tho honse. The driver of the cart escaped without hurt, and the horse, though outwardly unhurt, was probably injured internally. It appears that the driver of the sprinkler rang the bell as he was approaching Barbadoes street, but apparently he did not reduce speed. The cart was struck by the sprinkler with such force that the shafts and one of the wheels were smashed to pieces. The contents of the cart, fruit and vegetables, were scattered on the roadway, and altogether the wreck was a most complete one. Soon after the accident, willing handhelped to gather up the fruit and vegetables, and subsequently the wreckwas cleared away. This corner is a notoriously dangerous one. It is stated that last week a cab was run into by a tram car at it. and that at least another similar accident has occurred at the same crossing.
