No further buildings were destroyed in last night's fire, although several premises on theoppesite o. the street were soorched', windows broken, and stocks slightly damaged by water. But for the absolutely Ciiiui night the whole town might have been destroyed. The losses over insuranoes are very heavy. and the total damago is estimated at about £25,000. The corrected insurance's are :—Whaler Bros. £250 in the Australian Alliance; McPherson £250 in the Sun oifice; Nichol £300 in the British; Garner £200 in the Commercial Union. Whitoombe £150 in the Commercial Union; Finch £100 in the Sun office, personal effects £50 in tho New Zealand; Hodgson £300 in the Norwich Union; Aldridge £50 in the Sun offioe; Jones £250 in the Sun; Miss Fraser (tea rooms) £40 in tho New Zealand); Wang You £200 in tho Sun offioo; Ellis and Darvell's insurances are unknown, but are probably in the Ailience and Queensland offices. Their stock is valued at £10,000. The Labour Department was uninsured as far as can be ascertained. W. R Emerson (solicitor) £50 in th© New Zealand' offico. The insurances on buildings were as follow :—Ellis and Darvell £860 in the Alliance; Mrs J. D. Barsby (on Whaler's, Nichol's and Mcpherson's premises) £450 in the Sun offico (on Wang You's premises £100), W. P. Garner £100 in the Commercial Union, E. Jones £100 in tlie Sun office, E. Hedges (on Finch's building) £600 in the New Zealandl, F. H. Gibbons (on Garner's building) £100 in the Commercial Union.

GISBORNE, March 2. A fire destroyed tho dwelling of Mr ballantyne, at Mangaono. In endeavoining to salvage tho contents, Mrs Ballantyne *"as severely scorched, her clothing catching fire. The house and contents were insured for £250 in the South British.
