AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of tho committee, of the Canterbury Automobile Association was held last ©veninc, when thero were present—Mr P. L. Hallenstein (President), Dr. Thacker, Dr. Neeley, Messrs A. Morten, M. Steeds, J. Troup, E. H. James, and E. Nordon (secretary). The arrangements made by Mr Morten for tho placing of signal posts warning motor-car drivers of the presence" of water races were approved, and in this connection it was decided to write to Mr J. Lambie thanking him for the interest, he had manifested In tho matter. The report of tho sub-committ.ee (comprising Messrs Mills, Morten, and James) set up to deal with the question of improvements in connection with tho reliability trials recommended that only one employee should he carried on each trade car; that only one mechanic or chauffeur be allowed on onecar ; that no report of any description be advertised until the judge's decision had been officially given, any person infringing this rule to he disqualified; that an appeal committee should be formed; that pretests should be lodged within 4-i hours of receipt of the judge's decision ; that observers should not leave their cars under any _) ret-ext during the day's run; that observers should be carried in tho back seat instead of the front seat in order to minimise tho possibilities of observers becoming too partisan, and that no petrol tank be carried. The Mib-oommittee al.->o expressed the opinion that in tho recent trial competition too much importance had been given to hill climbing capabilities and petrol consumption in comparison with the reliability test. Tho report wa.s received. The resignations of Mr Morten (vicepresident.) and Mr R. M. Maedonakl (committeeman) wr-ro accepted with regret, and Pr. Neeley Mas appointed vire-n resident. Messrs E P.
