FARMERS' UNION.
SOME FACTS ABOUT THE IN-
' (PHESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 2. The Dominion Executive of tho New Zealand Farmers' Union met to-day. The opinion was expressed that there was a real and pressing need for farm labourers and domestic servants. It was recognised that, although there are a number of unemployed- in the towns and many immigrants coming to Nov-? Zealand, many of these were unsuited for farm work. The effect of the shortage of labour had been that largo areas of agricultural land wore being converted into grazing runs. It was decided to collect definite information from tho various provinces, and that steps bo taken to meet the needs of the country. Strong comment was mado on the "wild cat" financial endorsed by the Hon. A. W. Hogg when approached by a deputation at Wanganui. It was resolved, in the interests of the farming community, that Chairs of Agriculture and Veterinary Science bo established in New Zealand. In the meantime scholarships should be established, so as to allow students to take a veterinary degreo at the Melbourne University. Members of the executive expressed satisfaction at the number of representatives returned to Parliament who were strong supporters of the Union.
