A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr A. 11 Thompson, late purser on tho Penguin, left yesterday by tlio Manuka foi Auckland, to join "tho Mokoia as purser. Mr J. M. McLean, oF the Wellington Telegraph Office, is on a visit to Christchurch.
Among tho arrivals in town yesterday were Mr C. H. J. Schmidt, Mr "\V. J. "Do Britt (Otira), Mr J , . Woodhill (Sydney}, Mr S. Kingsbury (lions Kong), Mr H. L. Dunn (Australia), Mr P. A. Cnllaiilmn (Dunedin). Mr G. L. Rutherford (Macdonald Downs), and Mr E. L. Lees (Wellington"). A very largely-attended gathering was held at Sefton on Saturday to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Bourne and family, who are leaving the district to resido in Riccarton. Mr .Bourne' was presented with a silver shaving apparatus, Mrs Bourne- be?nn the recipient of a handsome travelling bay. During the ovenins various felicitous speeches were made, and a, number uf vocal and instrumental items given.
Mr Sinclair, who lias resigned the position of chief engineer of the Government steamer Tutanekai, has joined Messrs Hut<-liison and Campbell as a partner in the Victoria Foundry, 'Wellington. His successor on the Tutanekai (Mr MePhorson), late chief engineer of.rte Amokura, was at one tinie chief engineer of tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's old Arniva, an appointment which he vacated to join the Defence Department as engineering expert.
Dr. Nel.'ijjan, Anglican Hi'-hnn. of 'Auckland, returned yesterday after an absence of over a year (says a Press Association message). He was met and welcomed by members of the clergy •ad others. The Bishop was entertained at a social Kithering in tho Choral Hall hist evening, when there was a very la rye attendance.
