BENEFIT SPORTS MEETING.
A boiH'fit sport.-; mooting, organised by tho Christchuroh Cycling Club., was hold at Lancaster Park yostorday afternoon. The weather remained fine throughout, .md the strong easterly wind which prevailed did not seriously interfere with tho various events. The attendance was very good, the sum of £02 heiny takc-n at the gates. The ptc presented was a. capital one ana provided oxoelk'iit sport. Considerable interest was added to it by t.'.c appearance of H. Arn.st. He won his h.'ut in the Dnr.lop Wheel Race and tin:.'lied second to U. A. .Smith in the ii:i:\L aiter a go yd race. Am.st gave an exhibition e.t how he trained tor the niaU-.i against Webb, and concluded with an exhibition <:f rowing on a patent •lionic rower.' an apparatus (•■imilir to the ivntr? j>ort:on ot a Ixiat. .Mr W. K. Thntnpson. on behalf of the Christclmrcih Cycling Club, presented Arnst with a medal suitably inscribed in coiiin;v:iu>ration ot his winning tho I world's sculling championship.
