SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
A special meeting of the School Committees' Association was held on Tuesday evening. The president (Sir Smith) was elected the Association's representative on the Board of Governors of the Technical College, Mr Lumsden, the representative for the past few years, being unable to accept nomination. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded' Mr If_m_den for his valuable servioas.
The difficulty in connection-with the annual examinations of the Sixth Standard children of the Waiau School was further discussed, but no informa-. tion was received as to whether the parents of the children had -actually paid the expenses of their conveyance tf. Culverden." It was stated by a delegate, however, *___.. .ia.spmo' instances parents"<rf*child_p_a'«- attending. country -»cl^ls : l__a the travelling expenses involved, and the result was that the children -would'be deprived of their Sixth .Standard certificate. A motion was passed,. A for transmission to the Board of Education, in favour of reverting to the" old "system, under which the inspectors visited, all the schools.
The necessity of receiving more help from the Department in the way of incidentals, was enlarged "upon, and a motion was passed that an appeal be made to the Board and tho Department for more generous, treatment. Tho question of free school books waa held over till next meeting, in order that it might bo discussed by the committees. A motion was passed the Association's support of tho single d .sks with adjustable seats. Tho Industrial Assooipartaon wrote, requeating the delegates to appoint members to act on a special com.mit.te© for the purpose of arranging lantern displays, illustrative of local industries, ' for, school children. The president and. the secretary wero appointed.
