SHIPPING NOTES.
Captain W. J. Laccy, lata of the N&vua has resigned from the Union Company's service, having been appointed to a position on the Auckland pilot staff. The New Zealand Shipping Company's large oaorgo steamer Orari arrived shortly after mid-day yesterday from Wellington, and is now busily engaged in completing' loading and coaling operations. The vessel, which is taking a, very large cargo' of wool, frozen meat and other products, will fill up here, and will leave finally on Friday afternoon for London, via Monte Video. The New Zealand Shipping Company's stoamer Wakanui is to leave the Bluff early, ibis morning, and wfl arrive here to-morrow to load cargo for London. It is hoped to get tho steamer away on Saturday for Waiters, Picton. Napier, and Wellington. She will complete, loading -t those ports, and will sail finally from Wellington for London on February 10th. Captain Angus, of the Kotuku, reports that on Thursday evening last, while on the passage from Greyinouth to Lyttelton, and when his vessel was 'between Cape Foulwind and Cape Farewell, he passed several large trees, which had evidently been washed out to sea from some of the rivers in flood. The trees were from 30 to 60 feet in length, and wore of largo girth, and were a danger to vessels running along tin coast. The steamer Hawea was the subject of some discussion at a recent rueeting of tho Greymouth Harbour Board. The Union
