CASUALTIES.

GISBORNE. January 26. Dora Griffin, aged 22. the second daughter of the Rev. Mr Griffin, the Wesleyan minister at Gisborne, was drowned in the school baths at midday. Deceased, -who was a splendid swimmer, had only entered the water for a fewmoments, when an elder sister observed her in distress, and rushed to tho rescue, but the girl had sunk. Tne" elder sister made frantic attempts to rescue her, but got ir.to difficulties herself. Mrs Griffin, mother of the girls, who had just loft tbe baths, hearing the screams, rushed back, and plunged in with all her clothes on, and was found struggling a few minutes after by two young men who had been attracted:'by tho screams to tho scene. Mrs Griffin and her elder daughter were assisted out of the bath, and a few minutes later the body of deceased was recovered.
