MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

and G. AY. Hulme, J.P.s). Yesterday Chas. David Scott, an old man, was charged with being an idl3 and disorderly person within tho meaning of the Police Offences Act. Station-Sergeant Johnston said that tho accused was very filthy in his habits. Hβ had no home, and on account of his unckenliness he could not obtain board and lodging. Mr Sm-aill said that defendant only came out of the Samaritan Home on Tuesday, Ijut the authorities were again willing to receive him. Tho Bench decided to sentence accused to three months' imprisonment, but tho warrant was ordered to be suspended if accused remained in the Samaritan Home for sdx months.

Clement Crook (Mr Alpers) was charged with driving a horse and cab along Manchester street in, a negligent manner. After hearing the evidence for the prosecution, and defendant's statement, the Bench dismissed the case. Henry James Morrell nnd Maud Christina Morrell (Mr Hunt) wore charged with keeping n brothed at Linwood*. They -pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by the police to the effect that the house in which defendants lived was not conducted on proper lines. Defendants called a number of witnesses to show that they were highly respectable, and that the proceedings were- the outcome of spite, rbo Bench dismissed the case. • - '

Sarah Smith ("Sir Donnelly) wae fined 20s, in •default, seven days' imprisonment, for rising obscene language. Ah Kee, a OKinaman, was charged vrith having uncustomed opium in his possession. Accused had to be almost carried into the dock, and appeared . to be suffering internally. Station-Sergeant Johnston said that tho nocused -was all right when being brought from the police station to tho Court. Apparently ho was frightened. The accused only shook his head vhen asked to pload, but. a constable said that he could talk English fairly On the application of the police, the accused was remanded till to-day. CIVIL CASES. Mr H. W. Bishop. S.M.) Archibald Gledhiill from Mrs Iviicy Thompson £A commission on the sale of a boardurg-house. Ho nl»o claimed' £1 Is from Mrs Elizabeth Lamson for taking an inventory of furniture in Mrs Thompson's house.. Judgment was given for plaintiff in both cases. v
