MR TANNER AND THE BARE MAJORITY.
TO THE EDITOr. Or "THE TRESS." Sir.—ln what calm, pleasant and woll-chosen words did Mr W. W. Tanner endeavour to palm off upon tho few v.-ho listened' to him at Buckley's road j hist night his advocacy of tho bare i Majority, holding tliit it was British : law. and claiming that as a bare ma- ' -oritv was sufficient to oust tho Government of tho day. to'elect members' v f Parliament, to " elect mayors and cmnoillors. etc.. it was a "logical conclusion'" that it should apply to tho censing and all other matters. Mr Tanner was asked if he was m '.your of tho bare majority if a jury ■~ciding tho question of a man on his •..•:at, and he replied: "Well, I don't 'link I should care to go as far as t'vat-." Tf this is a sample of Mr Tanner's onsislency, tho people of Avon, intluding Mr R. T. Boilcy, should- cara.illy consider it and decido that if heshows such inconsistency on this important mutter, as a '•logical" oonclu--ion it exhibits inconsistency on all subjects.—Yours, etc., . AVONITE.
