LYTTELTON.
Messrs C. Cook, J.P., and J. T. Brico, J.P., presided at the Lyttelton .Magistrate's Court yesterday. Peter Gucnole, who had been pre- j viously convicted of drunkenness on tho 10th hist., was charged with hav-| ing been found drunk on the railway I premises on Thursday. Ho was fined ten shillings and costs two shillings, with tho usual alternative. John Frederick Foreman pleaded guilty to a charge of having, on October 15th, stolen two ostrich feathers and two hatpins, of a total value of £1, the property of Mrs J. Beddingfield. Accused stated that he was a sailor on tho steamer Ripple. He signed new articles on Thursday, and was paid off with three or four pounds, j .but at* the end of tho day had only one j pound left. Ho was 'in the Royal Hotel, where the licensee had put him to bed. He had been drinking and did not remember anything. He asked tho Bench to give him another chance, and promised to take out n prohibition order against Ryan put in a statement-to-'isHow'tliat since 1834 there had been thirteen convictions against the accused, six of -which were for theft since 1899. Tlie- Sergeant also stated that there were evidences that accused had been thromrh osveral rooms in the Royal Hotel. The Bench cautioned and fined him forty shillings and costs, in default two months' _ A prohibition order was issued against the man. ~ -» • —~,
