TRAINED NURSES' ASSOCIATION.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE TRESS." Sir, —In reading tho report of -the meeting of the Trained Curses' Association in tin's day's issue, I see that when asked whether the rules would r.ot debar nurses trained in private hospitals. Miss Maclean replies that tho Association should not take the nurses who -were not eligible to be on tho Government register, and to do so would only lower tho standard of nurses. This question was asked by one of our clergymen. It seems almost I impossible to expect much sympathy i from one of our sex who has been j physically stronger or perhaps more fortunate than a number of h,er, pistera, but it surprises mc that doctors '. could silently listen to a reply Kko: that, when they themselves engage the uncertificated nurses to nurse so many of their cases that require tho skill and attention of a conscientious nurse. If certificates be more essential than reliable practitioners' testimonials, then why are nurses trained in private hos- i pitals not allowed to sit for examina- ' tian. Truly, trained and certificated nurses ore leaving the Hospitals for j private work every year, but, too true, ; far reason of ill-health, many compe- , tent nurses leave before their term of , training expires. But they, like us who are trained tmdter the supervision of rentable matron and doctors, are not thought worthy of membership, as we might tend to lower tho standard , of nurses. | If last night they deemed it neces- } sairy to present their rules as quickly as possible to Dr. Valintine, then is it not high time to give due consideration to competent, though uncertificated, nurses, so that ouir newly-elected members will consider the injustice and see that it is rectified l . —Yours, i etc., ! JUSTICE.
