The Hon. W. HaJll-Jones, Minister of Railways, was entertained by the Wellington 'branch of the Liboral and Labour Federation last nigliifc (says a Press Association message), and pre-, seated, with an illuminated address and a gold-mounted walking-stick, to mark the Federation's appi-oaiation of the completion of tho North lalahd Main Trunk line. About 250 persons were present, and tho proceedinga were of an enthusiastic character.

The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens, M.L.C., Mr 0. Holdtnvorth, of the Union S.SCompany, Mr Beet-ha.m, and Air Denniston, left for Wellington by the Maori last night.

Messrs Loin as and Temple, of tho Labour Department, left Wellington for Christchurch last night, on business connected with tlio erection of workers' homes here.

Maofarlane, (Cuilvorden). Mr H. Ru.-rrell (Peel Forest), Mr Cameron, Mr and Mrs (Sandys (Methven), Mr J. H. C. Bond (Dunedin). Mr H- J.. Bowers (Gcraidti.no), Mr Thomas Hinckley (Rakai-n), M-r T. Dcnvling (Hinds), ar.d Mr J. R. Scott (Dunedin).

At Grey-mouth yesterday, 3liss Thurstons, who has been appcarjtcd matron of the Christchurch Ho-pifcal, was presenter! by the nurses at the Greymonth Hospital with a handsome * silvermounted minor.

At Waimate, on Monday night, a large number of residents assembled to bid farewell to 3fr and Mrs Coltman, who leave for Auckland this week. 3lr Francis (Mayor), who presided, spoke of the regret felt at Mr Coltman's departure. 3lr Pitcaithly rend an address tendered to Mr and Mrs Coltman, which was subsequently handed to the guests of the evening by Mr 31anchester, a former Mayor," 3lr Talbot, chairman of the South Canterbury Hospital Board, snoke highly of Mr Coltman's services to that Board, and said it would be hard to find his equal in public matters. Mr R. W. Bishop and Mr Maurice J. Gresson have entered into partnership as barristers and solicitors, and have commenced practice in Hereford street.
