Mackenzie, M.P., now has the Taieri seat practically to himself, with Mt Loudon out of tho Tray. It ie reported that Mr Bedford will be a candidate for Dnnvdin North, and will havo Government support./

A largely attended public meeting at Petoni) passed, unanimously, the following resolution :—"That this meeting affirms that in the interests of good government and the moral welfare of the community, it is desirable that,tho following question be put to every candidate at tho General Elections: If elected, will you support legislation milking it a criminal offence to influence rotes at any time prior to any lonil optiosn poll by means of fraud, falsehood, or misreprespiitation, or by any form. .of deception, printed or otherwise, either for or against any of the issues on the local ootion ballot paper ?"
