CORRESPONDENCE.

CHRISTCHURCH NORTH

TO THE EDITOR Of "THE PRESS."

Sir, —A paragraph in your issue of to-day states:—"lt is understood that Mr T. E. Taylor will be a candidate for Christchurch North."

I do not know the source of youx information, but wish* to say that I have not decided to contest Christchurch North or any other seat.

I have had a largo number of eleotons urging mc to contest the City North seat and numerous invitations from other electorates, but I have not any definite plans. The question of whether I shall fight Christchurch North seat again is on© those who opposed my return last election must largely determine. If they express a definite desire in favour of my doing so, it would largely influence my final decision.—Yours, etc., T. E. TAYJjQR, Christchurch, Sept. 18th. ' ' SUMKER GAd SUPPLY* ■"..*'■ TO THE EDITOR OP "TOE PRESS." Sir,—lt would seem from the report of the last meeting of Ithe Sumner Council that negotiations ar© already entered into for borrowing moro money for a gas supply. I have no recollection of the ratopayere being consulted about this'project, and it seems to m© < that the attitude of th© Council in pleading poverty as the reason for inahdity to deal with the present very defective sewage question, which is of vital importance, does not square with this apparent eagerness to instal gas. : -Has the Council overlooked th© original proposal forming i an important; part of the present existing drainage scheme, which was to nght Sumner with the sewage gas? I have been told that had this been carried out as intended, the sewers would not he ithe dancer they now are.—-Youtb, etc., ~..■•■"■,.;.-'-■■ .-'-y''-yv
