THE SUNDAY MOTOR-CAR.

"If you stood at the junction of Forest road and Rocky Point road on Sunday mornings, and on till 2.30 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, and saivi tho numbers of motor-cars, bicycles, and vehicles of all descriptions making as hard as they could ■to Crouulla Boach, Sans Souci,' Lady Robinson's Beach, and these places, you would see the reason why men are absent from tho churches, and why wo cannot got hold of them" (says the "Sydney Daily Tehjgraph.") This was an explanation given by Rev. J. Howell Price, in the course of his speech yesterday at th« tonferpneo of Church of 'England clergymen on the subject ''Tho Church' and the Masses." His. suggestion was that'they should hold open-air services, fo as to induce men to listen to them. As for one proposal put forward, that tlie men should bo visited at the homes in the evenings, ho pointed out that; he had tried this without success, as those whom he sought were then at their lodgomeetingj>. He had found also that tho afternoon tea gatherings attracted tho women, "'so that," suit? he, "unless tho clergyman cares to make himself a walking teapot (laughter) he cannot reach tlfe ladies of his parish.' Ho must- be willing to drink tea .incessantly, and actually becemo drugged with it.'' A morion "in favour of a mission to men having been proposed, Archdeacon Gtmther promised to place this before tho arch-bishop on his return to Sydney.
