Tho Hiyk Coniuiissioner't} cable, dated London, Augusi 6th, 1908, says: —'"Tho mutton luarkot is quiot, but rathor steadier, lliyer Plato mutton is in largo supply, being strongly pushed for sale at 3d. Following aro the current quotations:—Canterbury .aucton 4d, North Island 3Jd. Tho lamb market is steady, thero being a very good ; demand tor Canterbury Jarub, which is quoted at sjdj other than Canterbury, sid. Tliere ia a better demand for beef, and tho market is firmer. Hindquarters aro quoted at *«!, forequartcrs at 2Jd. The butter market is quiet, but firm. Choicest New Zealand brands aro quot«l at llCs nominal, Danish 1225, Siberian IOSs jMjr cwt. There has be-on no alteration in tho cheeso market since last week. The hemp market is very dull. The stock held" in London amounts to 228 ix>ne. Following nxo tho current quotations: —Gocd fair grade, on -tJx 1 kiw!:, £26; fair grade, on the spot, £22 10s; fair current Manila, oil the- s]m>:, ±-~'2. August-October shipments, good lair grade, £25 10s; fair grade, £22 10s: fair current Manila, £21 10s. Last week's output from Manila was 21,000 bales."
The following is a copy of a cable receiver! by Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, from their London office, dated August Bth:—"Butter—Tho Copenhagen official quotation is uncharged. Imports of butter into the United Kingdom for week ending August Ist totalled 108,000cwt., as compared with 81,000cwt same period laet year."
