TARIFF REFORM.
MR CHAMBERLAIN ON ITS
PROSPECTS,
United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 6th, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, July G. Replying to birthday congratulations, Mr Chambei-ain declared that the victory of tariff reform was certain and would come very soon.
At the annual meeting of tho Birmingham, Aston, and Handsworth Unionist Association a few weeks ago, a letter was read from Mr Chamberlain, in which ho said: "I am getting better, and my doctors are still sanguine that I shall' be a credit to them this time, but complete recovery is very slow and I havo need of all my patience. My friends are making full amends for my absence, and I am astonished at the progress made. I am convinced that tariff reform has now taken a firm hold of the people. They see that it is only in this way that we can keep our position against foreign oompetitore, and will not allow what our forefathers xvon for us to bo filched from us by modern indifference."
