THORNTON COMEDY COMPANY.
To-night, at the Theatre Royal, after four years' absence, Mr Frank Thornton will make his reappearance here. For tho occasion he will introduce to Christehurch playgoers the- highly successful comedy—or dream play, *as it has been called—'When Knights were Hold." Nothing in the comedy line which has been brought out in London has achieved a greater success than this piece, and its success has been repeated in Australia. Mr Thornton's impersonation of Sir Guy Do Voro is said to bo the very funniest of his many humorous conceptions. The main action of the play being laid in the Middle Ages, affords great scope for display of costumes, and thero are also unique electric light effects introduced. Tho members of the company, which is claimed to he a strong one artistically, are, with tho exception of Miss Clare Mansfield, new hero. The curtain raiser, "That Brut© Simmons," will precede the comedy. This will bo Mr .Thornton's farewell prior to 3iis retiremerit, and the season is fixed to last nine nights, dnrinjr which there will l>o several changes. The plan of reserved seats is now open at tho Dresden.
