TECHNICAL CULLEGE BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
A meeting of tho Board of Governors 'of- the Oiiristchuroh Technical College was held last ovening, Air C. Aillisou, deputy-chairman, presiding.
The Chairman, in his report, stated that the Government had decided to retain the former rate of capitation for tho present year, after which the reduced rate would come into force. Tho Go-v-orninent had made a useful donat'.-n to the compositors' class, in the shape of several pairs of cases and a quantity of type. In moving tho adoption of t>he report, Mr T. W. Rowe suggested the advLsableness of Education and ocher Hoards combining with tho object of having the present scale of capitation retained. Tho reduced scalo would seriously embarrass the finances of such bodies. Tho motion was seconded by Mr T. Gapes, aiul carried.
The Director reported that since last neeting ono student had been admitted to the day school, and 36 to the evening school. Both schools had recently been examined. The result of the evening class examination had not come to hand, but those for the day school were rery satisfactory.
The report wr.s adopted.
Messrs R. W. England and Sons' donation of £1 Is for the- prize fund (to bo devoted to the building trade classes) was accepted with thanks.
The Appointmonts Committee reported:—<l) That Mr D. Shirlow, 8.A., had been api>ointcd instructor in English; (2) recommended that Mr A. Stewart be appointed to take the book-keeping classes, and Miss Hood-Williams to take the position of commercial mistress; (3) that the Board appoint a deputation to confer with the Board of Education with reference.to the appointment of a joint instructor in agriculture. The report was adopted, the chairman of the Board, Messrs M. Murphy, E. K. Mulgan, and T. W. Rowe, and f.ho director (Mr J. H. Howell), being appointed a deputation to "wait on the Edncation Board in reference to the appointment of an instructor in agriculture.
The Finance Committee recommended that Mrs Gardiner be asked to assume responsibility for all the instruction, m domestic subjects, and that her salary be raised from £200 to £235 per annum. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed that for tbe period ending June 23rd the receipts had amounted to .£2022 13s 2d, and the »«- penditure to. £1256 Os sd.
