Gardner (chairman) presented a requisition signed by > large number of electors of all clisms requesting Mr Clothier to allow hinv * aell to be nominated and pledging themselves to do their utmost to ••- cure bie return. If be consulted his personM feelings he would sooner sit by his own fireside and •friend to his own personal affair*; but euch a requisition as the ooe "before him needed recognition. II the requisition was merely asking him to a4k*r himself to be nominated, he would tliinl; t-wice before giving en answer; but seeing that they had pledged themeclves to do their utmost to secure hie return, he would accede to their request. (Applause.) • • At the eamo meoting, wiile pJeaeure was expressed at Mr D. Macrartanefc willingness to stand ac a candidate for the spat, it wae decided to request him to.withdraw, on the ground that two candidates of very much the - iwnua views might only jeopardise the seat.
