OTAGO UNIVERSITY v. CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

The annual match between Otago University and Canterbury College teams took place at Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon, when the former won, after a very interesting game by 21 points to 3. Tho ground was in a very greasy condition, and it was some time before the players could accurately handle the ball. The visitors' backs wero superior to the Collego vanguard, but when the local team's forwards got going they fairly outclassed their opponents, and their efforts should have been attended by greater success. College kicked off from the northern end, and during the first few minutes looked like eooring, but good work by XJttley and Nuku centred the game. Rhodes headed a rush into the visitors' territory, where it hovered for some time. Chryfltall attempted to take the ball near his own goal line, but slipped, and a score seemed imminent. He, however, managed to get to the ball just before Nuku touched it, arid a force resulted. 'Varsity had the College team defending vigorously for come time, and from some looso' play Nuku picked up the ball, and after making a fine run passed to Lomas, who scored. Hay converted. Tho spell ended shortly afterwards. After an exchange of kicks at the opening of the second spoil, Mcßridfr was in trouble, but a timely kick by Hay centred' tho game, and later. Grace obtained poKcssion. He passed; to Wigley, who transferred io Rhodes, and the "latter, after a splendid run, scored. The kiok at goal by Chrystall went wide. Kcid- took the ball from tho kick-out and after a run, passed to Rhodes, who removed pbay right on to tie visitors' goal line, where a free kick was awarded 'Varsity. Fast following up removed danger, and the game later hovered near the home team's goal line, where from a lino out, Lomas obtained' possession and nassed to Mcßride. who scored. Tlie kick went wide. After a-passing rush between Grace, Ferguson, McCallum and Reid, the last named had a pot at goal, which was unsuccessful, and a force resulted. Tho 'Varsity backs then indulged in a passing rush and Uttley scored. Hay converted. Passing between Lomas, Nuku and Hay again had College defending, and, the last named was nearly over, but a good kick by Chrystall relieved tfeo pressure. However, the visitors assumed th<? aggressive and a epJendtd l piece of passing by tho backs rcsurtedi in Hartgill obtaining a try. The kick at goal was •unsuccessful, Just before time, Hoy obtained possession and after & good run, kicked across to Seed, who ran over between tho poets. Hay

added the major points. Time was then called. Mr W. Woods was referee.
