HIS ELECTION LIBEL SUIT.
United Pross Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Juno 23. The "Manchester Courier" has apologised to Mr Churchill for tho libel published during tho lato election campaign, and has paid. £300 damages.
Mr Churchill issued a writ for libel against the "Manchester Courier" for publishing, a letter accusing him of escaping from Pretoria during the Boer wnr by breaking hie parole, and of deliberate lying on tho Chinese question. It is not irurprising that ••he ■editor has apologised. W© pointed out when tho news was announced by cabio, that according to his biographer, Mr Churchill -was pJacod in prison by tho Boors at Pretoria with othor officers, and guarded by armed sentries. It is interesting to note that Mr 2vicol I>irnn, the editor of tho "Courier," was the editor of the "Morning Post" when Mr COiaurliill ivas that paper's correspondent in South Africa. It was while acting as correspondent of thie paper that Mr Churchill was capturod.
