PATAGONIA.
Our Buenos correspondent writes as follows, under date April Bth:—"Your readers ought not to forget that wo have in this Republic an immense tract of sheep-farming country, known as Patagonia. Hero fortunes hare been, and are, being made. Lately, I have heard a great deal of this southern portion of South America. Land thero can bo obtained from the Government at 2s 9d per aero, payable over a period of ton. years. This of coarse is undeveloped land, and a great distance back from the ports. There are parts of Patagonia where the pasture is very rich, and which are only awaiting the advent of tlie railway to send to the coast a continuous stream of produce. Facilities of transport arc what are required, and the bullock cart must bo got rid of. Lately they have boon trying steam haulage, but, what with the cost of fuel, and 'the condition of J ■Jμ; roads, it- is far from a Micce-ss. Perhaps some do not realise how easily Bandy Point in the Straits of Magellan is reached from New Zealand, nor how quickly the services of those who understand the management of flocks are solicited. New Zoalandors are. greatly in demand, not only in thie part, but all up the sheep-farming parts of Chile; m> one need regard the language as a bar to immigration, a»s it i* greatly spoken in these parts.
