Th© Department of Industries and ■jommerce has received th© following cablegram from the High Commissioner, Londorn, dated May 30th: — *'There has been no aJtera-tion in the .mutton market since last week. Shipments now arriving are very small, but prospects are favou'rablo. Fo-iowing are the cm-rent quotations:—Cantoroury mutton 4sd, North Island 3_d, River Plate Sid. 'ihe lamb market is firm, and there is a good demand for all lamb. . Canterbury brands are quoted at s_d, and other than Canter_.ury at 5Jd- The beef market is dull. Hindquarters are quoted at 3_d, forequartere 3d. The butter market is steady, and home supplies are inc-reas-ine;. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 109s (nominal), Danish 110s, Siberian 100s. The cheese market is dull and rU-dining, and Canadians are hurry in f*; forward supplies. New Zealand white make is quoted at 60s, and coloured 575, Canadian makes 58s. The hemn market is very weak, with nothing coins. The following are the current quotations:—Good fair grade on the spot £26, fair grade on the 6pot £24 10s, ffiir current Manila on th© spot £24 10s May to July shipments are quoted as follows:—Good fair grade £26 10s, fair grade £24 15s, fair current Manila £24 15a. The cocksfoot seed market is firm, and buyers are not keen to do business. There are light stocks on hand, and bright clean 171b seed is quoted at 80s. The wool sales closed with improved competition. The market is stronger, but prospects are uncertain, as a large quantity is held over.
