■ /' HOTEL AND RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES' AWARD.
An award was filed in the office of the Clerk of Awards, Christchurch, on Saturday, embodying an agreement arrived 3t. between tho Canterbury Hotel and Restaurant Employees' Union and the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers' Association, taking effect as from Saturday, and continuing ia force till April 30th 3 1911. The following is the schedule of wages:—Kitchen— Where five or more hands are employed, chef £4 10.?, second £2 los, third £1 7s 6d, others £1 ss; where four hand's are employed, clief £3 los, second £2 ss, others £1 ."is; where three hands are employed, chef £3 10s. second £2 2s Gd, others £1 ss; where two hinds aro employed, cher £2 ss, second £1 10s; where only one hand is employed, male cook £2* female £1 10s per week. Where throe or more waiters are employed, the head waiter is to receive £2 10s, second £2, others £1 10s; where two are employed, head waiter £2, second £1 10s; a minimum wage of £1 10s shall be paid where one waiter only is employed. Head waitresses shall receive £1 5s per week, (others £1; a minimum wage of £l is to be paid where only ono waitress is employed. Housemaids, minimum wage 155.. Barmaids, minimum wage 2-ss, probationers 20s for the first six montlis. Pantry 1 rands—Males, first hand, £1 10s, others, or where only one is employed, £1 ss; females, £1 per week. Day porters, £1 ss; nightporters, if two ere employed, first £1 • 10s, second £1 ss, if only one is employed, £1 ss. Barmen —Head barman, £2; others, or where only one is kept, £1 10s. Billiard-markers, minimum wage £1 10s. General hands, where day and night porters are kept. £1 per week. Buttons—Under eighteen, minimum 10s per week; over eighteen, minimum los per week. Male probations may be employed as waiters for not moro than twelve months at 15s per week for tho first six months and £1 per week for the second six montlis. Female probationers may be employed as waitresses for not more than six months at a wage of 10s, tho proportion of probationers to be not more than ono to each three or fraction of three employees receiving not hs.3 than tho minimum wage. Where board is not provided, cooks, waiters, waitresses, pantrymen, barmen, barmaids, and porters aro to receive 10s per week additional, and where lodging is not provided 5s per week additional. The hours of work are not to exceed sixty-five per week, anel overtime is to be paid for at Od per hour for workers receiving £1 10s a week or less, and time and a half for theso receiving over £1 10s. Forty-eight hours notice or. either side bo given at termination of serviro. All workers must becomo members of tho Union within one calendar month of engagement by any employer. The award applies only to employers carrying -on business as licensed hotelkeepers within the electoral districts of Christchurch North, Christchurch South, and Christchurch East. Tho agreement upon which the award waii based was entered into subject to the condition that the Union should not attempt to extend the scope of the award to Hurunui, Kaiapoi, Riccarton, Avon. Lyttelton, EUrsniere, Courtenay, or Selwyn.
