Enquiries are coming to hand from the North, and in the absence of offerings of any extent from growers merchants are filling orders mainly out ot store, nt an advance on J lat<» rates. A few purchases have been made froni growers at 4s Sjd and Is (ki at country stations, the latter price being offered for prime milling, Pearl having tho preference As no supplies of oats are coming forward, orders for coastal shipment are being filled in tho south by local n.erchants. Tie .Southland crop is an exceptionally good one, and farmers a~o selling rather more freely than furifcer north. *" Oatsheaf chaff is in fair supply, but there is only a limited outsido enquiry. Potatoes are firm, and £4 is now being paid for both Derwents and Un-to-Dates. Tho "Australasian" of the 2nd inst. reports the Ulimaroa took 3720 sacks of from Melbourne for New Zea- < laDd. So far shipments of oats from New Zealand to Melbourno have not ' been large, only 1619 eacks since January Ist, as compared with 342G sacks d-uring the first three, months of last year. Tho undermentioned are the pricea paid to farmers at country stations, free of commission, except where otherwise, stated:— \Vheatr—4s 5d to 4s 6d, at country stations. Oats—2s 3d to 2s 4Jd, at country stations. , Barley (nominal) —Good malting 4s 3d to 4s 9d, at country stations.
