BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
MR J. B. REID APPOINTED A DIRECTOR. (SPECIAL TO " THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, May 8. Mr J. B. Reid, of Christchurch, has been appointed director of the Bank of New Zealand, to fill the vacancy oi the Board caused by tho resignation of Mr F. de C. Malet. The general opinion here is that the appointment will materially strengthen the Board, Mr Reid having an extensive knowledge of commerce and pastoral and agracultural affairs in the South Island, more particularly in Canterbury and Otago. The new director is very well-known in Christchurch commercial circles, where he has held a prominent position for some years. Mr Reid is the second son of Mr John Reid, of Elderslie station, Otago. Although born in Australia, he was educated at the Dunedin High School,, and afterwards spent ten years learning station life at Elderslie. Subsequently he entered into partnership with Mr Maclean, Dunedin, as auctioneers and stock agents. He came to Christohurch as representative of Messrs Nelson Bros., and at the present time he represents thtj Colonial Consignment Company and Messrs Gordon, Woodroffe and Co., of London. Mr Reid has been a member of the Canterbury Jockey Club for many years and is a trustee of the Riccarton racecourse.
