WELLINGTON NOTES.
(special to "the press.") WELLINGTON , , May 8. The cash and coupon system adopted by the Wellington bakers has caused a great deal of extra work to be thrown upon the drivers of the delivery carts. Some men have taken from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. to finieh their work. Naturally they are now demanding extra tor overtime, and if such is not granted, their present intention is to go on strike on Monday next. Superintendent Hugo, of the Wellington Fire Brigade, who is resigning his' ' present ' position to become inspector of .the New Zealand' JjTigadee, will pay, o. visit to Australia before he takes up his, new duties, in order to inspect- tn© latest fire suppressing appliances in the Commonwealth. In a recent issue of the "Labour Leader," Mr Keir flerdie, M.P., writes about nis visit to Now-Zealand. He describes Mr E. Tregear, the head of the Labour Department, as "One of the sweetest, strongest, cleanest souls in the, Dominion . ," He also refers to the kindness shown him by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wellington and other friends; . . . .
